ORGANIC LAW OF GEORGIA

ON STATE SYMBOLS OF GEORGIA

 

Article 1 – Scope of the Law

This law, in compliance with Article 2(4) of the Constitution of Georgia, shall establish the state symbols of Georgia, the national flag of Georgia, the state coat of arms of Georgia and the national anthem of Georgia.

 

Article 2 – National flag of Georgia

1. The national flag of Georgia is a rectangular white fabric with a large, red, right-angled cross in the centre touching all four sides of the flag. The squares created by the vertical and horizontal arms of the cross feature four Bolnur-Katskhuri crosses of the same colour.

2. The image and standard dimensions of the national flag of Georgia shall be determined by annexes No 1 and No 2 of this Law.

 

Article 3 – State Coat of Arms of Georgia

1. The state coat of arms of Georgia shall be displayed in the forms of a state coat of arms and a small state coat of arms.

2. The state coat of arms is a heraldic shield, on the purple field of which is depicted an image of Saint George, a silver rider with a golden halo mounted on a silver horse, impaling a silver dragon with a silver lance, with a golden cross affixed to its shaft. The shield is crowned with an Iberian (Georgian) crown. The two shield bearer golden lions are standing on a base of a stylized grape vine ornament. The base is embellished with a silver-purple motto ribbon (obverse – silver, reverse – purple). On the silver field of the ribbon, with the Georgian Mkhedruli alphabet in black, the motto is written: United We Stand. Purple heraldic crosses are depicted on the ribbon, on the top and the bottom of the motto inscription.

3. The small state coat of arms is a heraldic shield, on the purple field of which is depicted an image of Saint George, a silver rider with a golden halo, impaling a silver dragon with a silver lance ending with a golden cross. There is an Iberian (Georgian) crown on the shield.

4. The images of the state coat of arms and the small state coat of arms shall be determined by Annex No3 of this Law.

 

Article 4 – National Anthem of Georgia

The lyrics and the music of the National Anthem of Georgia shall be determined by annexes No 4 and No 5 of this Law.

 

Article 5 – Entry into force of the Law

This Law shall enter into force upon the taking of an oath by the President of Georgia elected in the next presidential elections.
